Locally based in the Kimberley town of Derby, Darryl Keevil & Shani Gugeri have operated Buccaneer Sea Safaris from March to October for over 12 years. In 2009, they replaced their vessel "Utopia" with the "Mahalo II" to allow for greater creature comforts for guests, keeping in mind that they wished to retain their hands -on, hunter gatherer, Kimberley-esque theme to their sea safaris. Both Darryl & Shani have a love for the Kimberley Coast and all that it entails. It is very rewarding for them to pass on local knowledge and know that when guests depart that they have had a time of their lives. They have a great following of previous customers who know that when they come back, their experience will be as good, if not better than the one before.
Darryl is the Captain of the Mahalo II and knows the Kimberley Coast and its secrets better than most. He has a background in motor mechanics which comes in handy when you operate in such a remote area. He has a love for the sea and all that it entails and has spent his spare time fishing and boating all his life. He leads his crew by example and sets high standards for cleanliness and customer service whilst on tour.
Shani was born in Derby and has ventured with her family to Cone Bay since she was 6 years old. This developed a love for the Kimberley Coast as well as a need to know more about the marine life that abounds in the area thus leading her to study Marine Biology at James Cook University in Townsville. She worked for Maxima Pearling Company in Cone Bay (now the site of the current Barramundi farm) for 3 years before joining Darryl to operate Buccaneer Sea Safaris. Now with children, Kira and Jayden, she manages the office of Buccaneer Sea Safaris and ensures that attention to detail to all guests is provided.
